When our competition says screws are better than nails to fasten a steel roof, even they don’t believe it! How do we know? Some of our competitors tried to duplicate our system, but had to stop due to patent infringement. Today, Hy-Grade Steel Roofs are the only layered metal roofs on the market fastened with nails instead of screws.

Because screws need to be tightly fastened to be flush with the metal, tears frequently occur during installation. Later, due to normal expansion and contraction of the steel between seasons, the threads routinely stress the sockets causing even more tears and loosening. All of this damage leads to leaks and other issues.

In contrast, the smooth-shank nails and patented built-in sockets used by Hy-Grade fasten the steel without tearing or creating gaps. Plus, there are no threads to stress the metal across seasons. This means no re-tightening of screws every year!

Additionally, because screws take more time to fasten than nails, our competitors only screw in roughly half the number of panels to save in labour costs. This results in a looser fit that’s more likely to leak. Hy-Grade’s patented system – using double strapping, nails and our moulded socket – provides a durable, leak-proof fit.
