A Hy-Grade Steel Roof is installed over your existing roof, eliminating the expense, mess and environmental damaging disposal of the old asphalt shingles. When you have a HGR installed on your home or cottage you are not contributing to already overflowing land fills. The single investment of a permanent HGR is equivalent to multiple purchases of asphalt shingles. With a HGR you become a greener homeowner. The installation of a Hy-Grade Steel Roof is a 3 step process. First, the roof is strapped with 1x3 and 2x2 wood battens. If the roof is strapped it can be ‘leveled’ and when it is strapped there is a good sturdy framework for the new steel shakes to be applied to. The strapping also creates an air space that aids in ventilation. This new air space will keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Next all trim, mouldings and flashings are installed. If required HGR will custom make these pieces either on the job site or in their plant. All the trim, mouldings and flashings, are made from the same 26 gauge G90, Plastisol coated steel that shakes are fabricated from. Lastly, the steel shakes are installed. Each shake covers an area of 33” x 14.25”. HGR is unique in that each steel shake has a patented nailing socket. This socket has been engineered to allow for the expansion and contraction of the steel without ‘working out’ the fastener. No other roofing system has this design. |
