Hy-Grade Steel Roofing Reviews

“I am thrilled with my new roof and the installers of my roof (Tim M) who has been installing these roofs since this company’s inception for 30 yrs and his nephew (Matt). They answered all my questions and did an excellent job even on my dog house/air conditioner cover!”

M. Hoekstra

“Today, Lee (a very friendly and knowledgeable man) and his colleague arrived at my door and replaced 17 snow bars. They were polite and quick to get the job done. Thank you for setting in motion the service my roof needed.”

M. & L. Tagliabracci

New Hamburg, ON

“Our experience with Hy-Grade has been phenomenal. From sales to service and delivery we give Hy-Grade two thumbs up. We’re excited to continue our roof journey should any need arise and will continue to refer your way.”

J. Sutherland

Owen Sound, Ontario

“These guys are FANTASTIC!!!. We had a roof installed by Hygrade in 2008. Recently we had a problem (no fault of hygrade) our chimney that we never use now and was built into the roof fell down. I contacted Lance in customer service on Tuesday morning and by Wednesday afternoon the installers were at the house and repaired the roof to the point you would not even know there was ever a chimney there. We are extremely happy with the product and their service 9 years after the install. Recommend Hygrade to anyone. WAY TO GO LANCE!!!!”

S. Rumis

Guelph, Ontario

“We chose a Hy-Grade metal roofing system because of the quality of their product, their great reputation, workmanship and the warranty.”

J. Recce

Milton, Ontario

“I am very impressed with the way the roof was prepared before the steel roofing was installed and the product being Canadian.”

S. Hutchinson

Oshawa, Ontario

“It is unfortunate that I have read one or two people that were not happy with their Hy-Grade roof. However, the response from Hy-Grade affirms the commitment this company has to it’s customers and we have experienced this first hand. It took us over a year to finally make the decision and during that time, I researched, compared and asked questions, visited other homes with Hy-Grade roofs and spoke with the homeowners.  Once the commitment was made, we couldn’t be happier.  This is our first winter with the new roof and with the high winds, snow and ice that 2016/2017 winter brought we were secure knowing that our shingles were not going to blow off, that the snow and ice were not going to ice dam like we had with our old roof. All the neighbours admire the high quality and it transformed the look of our home. We know for the next 50 years (or longer) the roof is something we will never have to address again. In addition, we have the assurance knowing that if we do have a problem it only takes a phone call to the office and someone will help us. I want to thank our sales representative for being so patient and answering all of our endless questions, Ted you were awesome.  The crew that showed up to our home were courteous, neat and efficient, any questions that we had they were able to answer. The office staff have always been customer service orientated and friendly, you really do get a sense that they are family. We are happy becoming part of the Hy-Grade family, and understand that as in any family if there are troubles, we trust that they will be there to support and care for us.”

G. Sander

Orleans, Ontario

“The Sales Rep was very knowledgeable about the product, great follow up.”

L. Hachey

Kinmount, Ontario

“We are completely satisfied with our steel roof. It looks great!”

Benefits Of Steel Roofing

By | Our Advantage | No Comments

If you have pulled broken shingle parts from your gutter, you have probably thought about finding an alternative material for your roof. Shingles have seemingly been around forever, and many people do not know that there are more options for what you use to cover your house. If you are looking for a roofing contractor in Ontario to replace a handful of broken shingles, there are a few reasons to ask about switching to steel roofing.

Environmentally Friendly

More often than not, metal roofs are made from recycled materials, which can be recycled again if and when the roof needs to be replaced. Other shingles are composed of various substances that have nowhere to go but a dumpster once they are ripped off your house. Steel roofs also last much longer than shingles, at least 4 times longer, so they are more eco-friendly.

Since metal roofing is more durable than regular shingles, it is easy to receive a good warranty on the product. It is also easier to determine the source of damage when the product is not a composite of different materials, so your roofing contractor can be very clear as to what the warranty covers. This is not always the case with traditional, flimsy shingles.

Home Value

As steel roofs become more popular, they help to increase the value of your home. More and more prospective buyers are willing to spend a little extra for a roof that is durable and permanent, whereas a house with old shingles can have a significantly lower resale value. If you can increase the worth of your home by paying for new roofing that you need anyway, you might as well go for it.

Once you find a roofing contractor in Ontario who can replace your old shingles, ask what option they think will be best for you. Chances are they will advise you to go with steel roofing, and you would be wise to listen to them.

4 Factors To Consider Before You Install A New Roof

By | Why a Hy-Grade | No Comments

Before you choose a roofing system for your home, there is a multitude of factors to consider. Your personal tastes, architectural style, and budget will all have a great amount of influence on the type of system that you select. If you need to install new roofing in Ontario, here are four basic things to take into consideration.

1. Material

The type of material that you choose for your roofing system will have a major impact on its durability, physical appearance, longevity, and cost. Many areas of the country also have building codes regarding roofing material, so you should check with your local authorities before choosing one. Certain neighborhoods may also have strict aesthetic requirements.

2. Budget

As with any home improvement project, your budget will undoubtedly come into play. Asphalt shingles are the least expensive, and slate is the most expensive material. Companies that specialize in roofing in Ontario can help you choose a system that fits your budget, and by browsing their inventories, you will be able to compare your options.

3. Architecture

The architectural style of your home will undoubtedly influence the type of roofing system that you choose. The majority of homes use asphalt shingles, but many homeowners are willing to spend extra in order to maintain architectural integrity. The majority of roofing experts recommend installing a system that complements the style of your home.

4. Color

The color is extremely important when it comes to roofing systems. Darker colored roofs tend to retain heat, while lighter colored roofing in Ontario tends to repel it. Consider the climate that you live in, and choose a roof that keeps your energy bills low.

Final Notes

There is no set formula for choosing the right roof, but by keeping the aforementioned factors in mind, you can certainly come close. You should also keep your own personal tastes in mind during this process since the roof will be installed on your house. By remembering these factors, you will definitely select a roof that beautifully complements your home.

Why Re-Roof Now

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Why Should You Re-Roof Now?

Your “Ugly” Roof Means It Will Be A Leaky Roof –
And Sooner Rather Than Later!

Why Should You Re-Roof Now?

You’ve tried not to notice the extra grit at the bottom of your downspouts. You’ve ignored the curling, cupping, missing, blistering, missing/torn and just plain old shingles and roof areas for as long as possible.

Now you’ve got water spots forming on the ceiling…in a couple rooms and one of them is right above your bed. Mold has likely already started to breed in your attic. Wet and ruined insulation causes attic heat loss, more shingle blistering and is costing you a fortune in higher energy bills. It’s now just a matter of time before buckets adorn your floors and you’re rudely awakened in a wet spot.

Why Should You Re-Roof Now? Why Should You Re-Roof Now?

Hyperbole? Not really, not if you wait until your roof leaks water into your house. So what can you do to prevent that? Inspect your roof at least twice per year, in the spring and fall, from the ground or upstairs windows if at all possible. Use binoculars if appropriate. Only climb onto your roof with proper training, certification and safety equipment. Or contact Hy-Grade for your free, cheerful and convenient, no-obligation roof consultation and quote to the penny.

If you’re inspecting your roof here are the signs to look for:

  • Increasing amounts of shingle grit accumulating in downspout runoff.
  • Streak marks on the shingles running down the roof. This is a sign of attic heat loss due to inadequate attic ventilation and/or insulation. It can lead to blistering, shorter shingle life and eventual leaking.
  • Shingle deterioration: blistering, torn, missing, curled/cupping, (AKA “ugly”) shingles.

If you see your roof deteriorating, don’t wait. Your “ugly” roof will be a leaky roof.

Why Do Shingles Deteriorate And Deteriorate Prematurely?

The content of asphalt in shingles continues to fall and the result is painfully apparent – shingles are failing prematurely. As a matter of fact the quality has gotten so bad that new shingles begin curling, cupping and shedding grit/granules the moment they are exposed to weather and sunlight, so says the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for fiberglass shingles.

From Building Products of Canada, Inc. MSDS for Fiberglass Shingles, Storage section:

Product should be protected from the weather and direct sunlight.

The asphalt shingle product warranties, and the class action lawsuits filed against the shingle companies, are tacit admission that shingle life is shorter than they claim. “25-year” shingles last as few as four years, 30-year last as few as eight, 40-year as few as 12, and “Lifetime” warranties, like shingle warranties in general, have so many “exclusions” they’re almost not worth the paper on which they’re written. Learn more. How shingles are stored by the contractor who sells them to you can void the warranty before you ever buy them. Remember, if they’re stored outside the warranty can be voided.

Hy-Grade’s Warranties Are Simple And Simply The Best:

Lifetime Workmanship Warranty – No exclusions by work performed by Hy-Grade’s contracted installers per the contract you sign.

50-year No-Leak Warranty – Warranted not to leak due to rust perforation for 50 years

Return on Investment

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Do You Want To “Rent” Your Roof Every 7 Years…
OR… Own It For The Next 50+?

Return On Investment

Sure, a permanent solution to your roof problem(s) costs more up-front, but not that much more when you consider the savings and benefits in the long run. Depending on your roof size, and the asphalt roofing material used for comparison, for as little as two times more, you can expect at least 2 times their claimed roof warranty and 5-10 times the actual useful life of a permanent steel roof compared to asphalt shingles.

Please remember…asphalt shingle costs are going up (they’re petroleum-based) while their useful life is going down (they had to take out the asbestos fibers). It’s more and more common for us to permanently solve roof problems caused by five year old shingled roofs. People now often finance their cars for longer than that, and it’s why we suggest:

  • You never really purchase an asphalt roof. You only “rent” them, over and over again.

The investment cost of a permanent metal roof has steadily come down in recent years. Many people who were interested in steel roofs as few as five years ago are still saddled with the inaccurate belief that a permanent steel roofing system for their house would cost 2-3 times more than it actually does now.

So, now we hear, “I thought it would cost MUCH more than this. If I would have known then what I know now, I’d already have a Hy-Grade roof.” This idea about the cost of permanent steel roofing is the biggest myth we wish to dispel here:

If you considered investing in your home or cottage to improve its value, curb appeal, or simply your peace of mind, you should know that a beautiful and permanent steel roofing system is highly appreciated as one of the best investments you can make for you and your family. If you’re responsible for your church building maintenance, you’re included, especially with the legacy you’ll leave to future generations of church families.

Get Back up to 75% of Your Hy-Grade Steel Roofing Investment…INSTANTANEOUSLY!

If you only remember this one thing, let it be this—according to the Appraisal Institute of Canada, and their determination of return on home improvement/renovation investments, you can immediately add up to 75% of your Hy-Grade metal roofing investment to the value of your home.

Imagine investing a fairly typical $13,000 for a Hy-Grade permanent steel roofing solution. You couldinstantaneously add up to $9,750 to the value of your house. That means your net investment would only be around $3,250 for the last roof you will ever buy.

That’s close to the cost of the cheapest “25-year” asphalt shingle for the same sized roof. “Renting” another asphalt roof, or permanently solve your problems with Hy-Grade’s steel solution…it’s your decision. “But I don’t have my “$13,000” available right now. Now what?” We get that. Paying for a permanent Hy-Grade steel solution to your roofing problems right now might be a bit difficult.

That’s why you have, through Hy-Grade, multiple financing options from several leading lending institutions, all at very competitive rates. Whether you like the idea of a “bridge loan”, using someone else’s money with deferred payments for twelve months, or the thought of a reasonable monthly payment to permanently solve your roof problems is what you’re looking for…with approved credit Hy-Grade has you covered. Your Hy-Grade Roofing Consultant has all the details.
